My objective is to raise
consciousness as to what we are eating and to help people make proper choices
about it. We tend to eat without thinking about the consequences of that simple
action. We aren´t taking into account that if we ate right, our moods and
therefore our behavior would improve overall, and we would avoid diseases. The
only way to make proper choices is to know all of our options, all the
different diets we can adopt. Hopefully, once you notice all the health issues
we are dodging and how easy it is to do so, you will too make it your objective
to help other people.
We perceive the term
“diet” as negative, as an eating plan you go “on” and “off” and includes
restrictions, but diet is really just what you eat. On the other hand,
“lifestyle” is how you live; it includes your eating habits and your attitude
towards them.
“Let food be thy
medicine and medicine be thy food” (Hippocrates).
What you put into your body has a huge impact in how you feel and is
crucial in order to be able to fight and avoid diseases. For example, diabetes,
high cholesterol, heart disease, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, obesity,
bulimia, and cancer. All of them have a relation with food. Now, our bodies
aren´t waste baskets, so why putting all this junk food in it? One of the main
reasons is because processed foods are addictive. All the fat, salt, and
specially sugar make your body crave more of them. On top of that, because they
go through so many processes, they lose the nutrients their ingredients
initially had.
There are many defined
diets and lifestyles. Some of the most known are vegetarians, vegans, raw
foods, and paleo eating. They each have different ideology, but they are mostly
adapted to reach the final goal: to be healthy. If you change your diet, many
changes, advantages, and disadvantages come with it, but by making some changes
and adapting, you can be healthy.
